{"id":380061,"date":"2024-08-23T18:51:51","date_gmt":"2024-08-23T18:51:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/forums\/topic\/how-to-debug-when-ansys-cannot-find-the-license-host\/"},"modified":"2024-08-23T18:51:51","modified_gmt":"2024-08-23T18:51:51","slug":"how-to-debug-when-ansys-cannot-find-the-license-host","status":"publish","type":"topic","link":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/forums\/topic\/how-to-debug-when-ansys-cannot-find-the-license-host\/","title":{"rendered":"How to debug when Ansys cannot find the license host?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&lt;p&gt;Ansys has been running fine on our local network with our resident license manager on a separate host, which is why now someone wants to change that.&nbsp; They want us to use a license manager on a completely different network than ours.&lt;\/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I&#8217;m testing with fluent, but really anything that requires a license would work.&lt;\/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I&#8217;m testing by changing the ANSYSLMD_LICENSE_FILE value from &#8220;1055@ourhost&#8221; to &#8220;1055@theirhost&#8221;.&nbsp; And then I try to run fluent.&nbsp; The initial GUI comes up, I click Start, and then it sits there for several minutes before it says:&lt;\/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Connected server license list:&lt;\/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Hit enter to exit&lt;\/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&nbsp;&lt;\/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;(Note the empty server license list)&lt;\/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;If I change the env var back to our license host, then it works fine.&lt;\/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I suspect that the problem is either our network or our firewall, but they both think it&#8217;s all configured correctly.&nbsp; The question I have is&#8230;is there some license-testing utility in Ansys that I can use to get some useful info to show our network or security people what the problem is?&nbsp; Some log file somewhere that would say what is going on when Fluent tries to get a license and times out?&lt;\/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Thanks.&lt;\/p&gt;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"template":"","class_list":["post-380061","topic","type-topic","status-publish","hentry","topic-tag-ansys-license-manager","topic-tag-ansys-license-manager-error-1"],"aioseo_notices":[],"acf":[],"custom_fields":[{"0":{"_bbp_subscription":["169399","446993","68381"],"_bbp_author_ip":["69.66.154.58"],"_btv_view_count":["244"],"_bbp_topic_status":["unanswered"],"_bbp_topic_id":["380061"],"_bbp_forum_id":["27796"],"_bbp_engagement":["68381","169399"],"_bbp_voice_count":["2"],"_bbp_reply_count":["1"],"_bbp_reply_count_hidden":["1"],"_bbp_last_reply_id":["382647"],"_bbp_last_active_id":["382647"],"_bbp_last_active_time":["2024-09-13 15:57:49"]},"test":"robgics"}],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/topics\/380061","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/topics"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/topic"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/topics\/380061\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=380061"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
