Mesh refinement was needed for stresses to converge, but this wasn&#8217;t the case for rotations and moment reactions which stayed quite close to each other no matter the refinement.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Now that I switched to Nitinol as material, I am seeing some behavior I cannot quite explain.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This is how I defined my Nitinol material:&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/05\/23-05-2024-1716454875-Nitinol material.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"570\" height=\"230\"><\/p>\n<p>I did the exact same simulation as with PA66 before, the mesh sizing parameters are the same too (the ones for which I achieved mesh convergence in the ROI in the PA66 simulation).&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>However, the refined mesh shows results which are almost exactly twice as high as the results for the inital mesh (which was already refined at critical points\/ROI, so I didn&#8217;t start with the default mesh or anything). This is the case for ALL results. Stresses, rotations, moment reactions&#8230; I would have expected this for the stress results as before, if the mesh wouldn&#8217;t have been fine enough but not for ALL results:&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>equivalent stresses<\/strong> over both bodies (in ROI) &#8211;&gt; maximum and average results are affected, too, so it&#8217;s not like it&#8217;s a local stress riser or anything<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/05\/23-05-2024-1716455735-EqStress_1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"509\" height=\"207\"> &nbsp; &nbsp;<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/05\/23-05-2024-1716455752-EqStress_2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"514\" height=\"196\"><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>2. <strong>Moment reaction<\/strong> on one side of the inner part (where I applied a remote displacement rotation)&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/05\/23-05-2024-1716455884-MomentReaction_1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"511\" height=\"214\"> &nbsp; <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/05\/23-05-2024-1716455903-MomentReaction_2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"534\" height=\"198\"><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>3. <strong>Rotation <\/strong>at the opposite end of the outer part (where it is free to rotate and does so to a certain extent while both parts are in contact during the rotation of the inner part)&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/05\/23-05-2024-1716455976-Rotation_OT_1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"515\" height=\"215\"> &nbsp; <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/05\/23-05-2024-1716455995-Rotation_OT_2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"542\" height=\"204\"><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Can anyone maybe explain what is happening here or has maybe had some similar experiences?&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Is my understanding reasonable that I find it weird that all the results almost exactly double?&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Could it be because of the nonlinear material properties of Nitinol?&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Thanks in advance!&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"template":"","class_list":["post-368270","topic","type-topic","status-closed","hentry","topic-tag-material-nonlinearity-1","topic-tag-mesh-convergence","topic-tag-mesh-refinement"],"aioseo_notices":[],"aioseo_head":"\n\t\t<!-- All in One SEO 4.9.10 - aioseo.com -->\n\t<meta name=\"description\" content=\"Hi there!
