


{"id":36625,"date":"2019-07-18T12:58:44","date_gmt":"2019-07-18T12:58:44","guid":{"rendered":"\/forum\/forums\/topic\/cable-pretension-modeling\/"},"modified":"2019-07-18T12:58:44","modified_gmt":"2019-07-18T12:58:44","slug":"cable-pretension-modeling","status":"closed","type":"topic","link":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/forums\/topic\/cable-pretension-modeling\/","title":{"rendered":"Cable Pretension Modeling"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hello everyone,<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Actually, I study the behavior of a prestressed cable-strut structure (photo below) and I have a problem of modeling pretension in cables.&nbsp;The structure is prestressed with tension&nbsp;on cables (thin elements) and compression on struts (thick elements).&nbsp;All values of tension and compression are known, the problem is how to put them into the structure and let ANSYS know.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/us.v-cdn.net\/6032193\/uploads\/attachments\/9f0b64b3-b35f-4231-a5e9-aa8e00cd455b\/00fd6e85-f689-4f35-b452-aa8e00cfdbae_image1.jpg?width=690&amp;upscale=false\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>All elements are linked by spherical joints (DOF=3, free RX RY RZ). The type of elements&nbsp;are Beam188 for strut and Link180 for cable (with Keyopt(3)=1 for the cable,&nbsp;it means they&nbsp;work on &#8220;tension only&#8221;).&nbsp;I actually used &#8220;Bold Pretension&#8221; for modeling the tension of the cable but it&#8217;s not properly correct.
