{"id":365089,"date":"2024-05-01T18:32:02","date_gmt":"2024-05-01T18:32:02","guid":{"rendered":"\/forum\/forums\/topic\/far-field-planar-mode-projection\/"},"modified":"2024-05-01T18:32:02","modified_gmt":"2024-05-01T18:32:02","slug":"far-field-planar-mode-projection","status":"closed","type":"topic","link":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/forums\/topic\/far-field-planar-mode-projection\/","title":{"rendered":"Far-field planar mode projection"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hello,<\/p>\n<p>I am using MODE with FDE to calculate the mode at device facet and generate how the mode would be into free-space propagation after a certain distance using the &#8220;Far-field Setting&#8221; option with &#8220;Planar&#8221; as projection method.<\/p>\n<p>However, the results as function of projection distance are quite weird as the mode appears expander for short propagation distance (even for 0 um), it would have a size narrowing up to a distance (similar to a waist of a Gaussian beam), and then expand again. This doesn&#8217;t match the propagation done using the far-field with angular projection method.<\/p>\n<p>Is this expected for planar method?
