I am plotting spectra for the light coupled out of the grating coupler and comparing that to the reference spectra when there is no grating coupler present (ideally to see if the dip at the cavity can still be detected amidst the fabry-perot modes that appear with the grating couplers). <\/p>\n<p>Here is the resulting transmission &#8220;T&#8221; through the field monitors (monitor is placed halfway between structure surface and FDTD boundary):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the reference spectra (Blue) looks like what I expect (dip near cavity resonance and roughly &gt;90% power is reflected back into the waveguide)<\/li>\n<li>the grating coupler simulations have two issues:\n<ol>\n<li>Transmission peaks &gt;1<\/li>\n<li>Expected transmission should remain &lt; 0.5 for a fully-etched, suspended grating coupler<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<img decoding=\"async\" title=\"PD_reflectivity\" src=\"\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/03\/29-03-2024-1711749446-lumerical_pd_R.PNG\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<p>Simulation screenshot(s) for visualization. (Left &#8211; reference sim without grating, Right &#8211; example with grating)<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"noGrating_ref\" src=\"\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/03\/29-03-2024-1711750442-pd_nograting.PNG\" alt=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Simulation with grating coupler\" src=\"\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/03\/29-03-2024-1711749285-PD_sim.PNG\" alt=\"\" width=\"536\" height=\"292\"><\/p>\n<p>Some other details:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lumerical 2023R2.2<\/li>\n<li>FDTD Mesh: accuracy 3, conformal variant 0<\/li>\n<li>Auto Shutoff: 1e-7 (all 3 simulation logs confirm this was satisfied)<\/li>\n<li>Boundaries: All PML except zmin=symmetric<\/li>\n<li>Material: 150nm thick suspended AlGaAs (40% Al), imported sampled 3D n,k data<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Does anyone know what might be causing this?
