{"id":358052,"date":"2024-03-20T04:02:37","date_gmt":"2024-03-20T04:02:37","guid":{"rendered":"\/forum\/?post_type=topic&#038;p=358052"},"modified":"2024-03-20T04:02:37","modified_gmt":"2024-03-20T04:02:37","slug":"fatal-issue-with-split-by-plane-feature","status":"closed","type":"topic","link":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/forums\/topic\/fatal-issue-with-split-by-plane-feature\/","title":{"rendered":"Fatal issue with Split by plane feature"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hi all, gentlemen and gentlewomen!<\/p>\n<p>I have a simple 3D model of a &#8220;lambda-shaped&#8221; vent within its (much larger) CFD enclosure, and I&#8217;m splitting it in half to exploit the symmetry of the problem.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/03\/20-03-2024-1710906001-11.png\" alt=\"\"><br \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/03\/20-03-2024-1710906223-33.png\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m using the <em>Split by plane<\/em> feature twice, using a temporary midplane to cut in half the enclosure first, then using the half-enclosure itself to cut the venting system. Everything looks fine, but as soon as I save and reopen the file, all sorts of errors come up, starting with &#8220;An error while executing &#8216;Open'&#8221; and persisting whatever I&#8217;m trying to do. I tried repeating the procedure just in case it was a file corruption issue, but nothing changed. The geometry is fine before cutting it, and stops working as soon as it&#8217;s split by plane.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/03\/20-03-2024-1710906578-1.png\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/03\/20-03-2024-1710906600-2.png\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<p>What am I doing wrong?<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll point out a couple unconventional things I did with the CAD, I hope this helps:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The enclosure was done manually and not with the native feature. That&#8217;s because as of know I&#8217;d build the box using the distances from the origin rather than &#8220;cushion lenghts&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li>The system is over-constrained, at least, I get notified about that all the time.
