Hi there, I’m hyeon min<\/p>\n

Here’s my model below and I want to do modal analysis. The version is ANSYS 2023 R1 .<\/p>\n

The Blue and yellow lines are meaning ‘Weld’ function in mesh(batch connection)<\/p>\n

and contacts are below.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

More easily, I explained the situation below.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

There are 3 bonded contacts between 4 shell bodies(midsurface) and 2 bolt connection as beams on my model and I posted initial contact status below<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

Worksheet shows that only one bonded contact pair was closed(bonded well)<\/p>\n

But the remaining 2 are not… they are ‘inactive<\/strong>‘ as you can see on worksheet.<\/p>\n

And also, the solution information said like below.<\/p>\n

‘NO CONTACT ELEMENTS EXIST FOR REGION<\/strong>‘<\/p>\n

Why contact elements are not generated?????<\/p>\n

‘Inactive<\/strong>‘ is not an error but also it is not what I want. because the bolt connections, they(shells) need to be bonded.<\/p>\n

If not, shells penetrait each other.<\/p>\n

I tried almost everything for resolving this problem.<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. change formulation ‘program controlled’ to ‘MPC<\/strong>‘<\/li>\n
  2. change pinball radius 4mm~20mm (each shell thickness is 4mm)<\/li>\n
  3. changed normal stiffness<\/li>\n
  4. turn off ‘mesh defeaturing<\/strong>‘<\/li>\n
  5. change detection method<\/li>\n
  6. change weld (weld leg)<\/li>\n
  7. change mesh element size fine to coarse<\/li>\n
  8. Shared topology is not what I want<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    and so on.<\/p>\n

    But none of them resolved this ‘inactive<\/strong>‘ problem.<\/p>\n

    Yes, I know inactive is not a problem that has to be solved but as I mensioned earlier, I need it because bolt connection between shells.<\/p>\n

     <\/p>\n

    and also I fount that the info message ‘2 overlapping contact regions found’ It means contact between frame 1 and 2, and contact<\/p>\n

    between frame 2 and 3 are in trouble. What does it mean that ‘overlapping contact’ and how can I solve it?<\/p>\n

    Is there any other way?<\/p>\n
