


{"id":356140,"date":"2024-03-08T17:26:34","date_gmt":"2024-03-08T17:26:34","guid":{"rendered":"\/forum\/forums\/topic\/deflections-not-matching-for-simple-cantilever-beam-check\/"},"modified":"2024-03-08T17:26:34","modified_gmt":"2024-03-08T17:26:34","slug":"deflections-not-matching-for-simple-cantilever-beam-check","status":"closed","type":"topic","link":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/forums\/topic\/deflections-not-matching-for-simple-cantilever-beam-check\/","title":{"rendered":"Deflections not matching for simple cantilever beam check"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hello,<\/p>\n<p>I am looking to use *ELEMENT_SHELL_COMPOSITE for tow-steered composite modeling and ran a simple cantilever beam test to see if the element type was working as expected.&nbsp; For my test case, the material is steel (E = 200 GPa), the dimensions are L = 100 mm, w = 10 mm, and h = 3 mm, and a 50 N load is applied the the nodes at the end.&nbsp; Solving by hand, I expect to get a deflection of about 3.7 mm.&nbsp; I modeled the problem using *ELEMENT_SHELL and got 3.67 mm.&nbsp; With the working model, I transfered the elements from *ELEMENT_SHELL to *ELEMENT_SHELL_COMPOSITE and modeled it with 3 &#8220;steel plies&#8221; each 1 mm thick.&nbsp; The transfer was done by using EleTol-&gt;ElmEdit-&gt;Composite, inserting 3 plies, and assigning the material and thickness (I did not touch the direction).&nbsp; Running this gave a deflection of 4.13 mm.&nbsp; Any idea how to fix the *ELEMENT_SHELL_COMPOSITE model?&nbsp; I did try LAMSHT=1 in *CONTROL_SHELL, but the deflection did not change.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Cantilever Beam Deflection for Shell Composite and Shell\" src=\"\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/03\/08-03-2024-1709918649-Element-Type-Discrepancy.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2316\" height=\"1250\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"template":"","class_list":["post-356140","topic","type-topic","status-closed","hentry"],"aioseo_notices":[],"acf":[],"custom_fields":[{"0":{"_bbp_subscription":["340896","13468","3136"],"_bbp_author_ip":["23.206.193.146"]," _bbp_last_reply_id":["0"]," _bbp_likes_count":["0"],"_btv_view_count":["352"],"_bbp_topic_status":["unanswered"],"_bbp_topic_id":["356140"],"_bbp_forum_id":["27814"],"_bbp_engagement":["3136","13468","340896"],"_bbp_voice_count":["3"],"_bbp_reply_count":["6"],"_bbp_last_reply_id":["356509"],"_bbp_last_active_id":["356509"],"_bbp_last_active_time":["2024-03-11 21:24:24"]},"test":"ebogettiudel-edu"}],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/topics\/356140","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/topics"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/topic"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/topics\/356140\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=356140"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
