In my project I am trying to identify the operational limits for the amount of clamping force that can be applied to the gaskets without causing permanent deformation. I have carried out experimental work and I am now aiming to validate this through FEA. I have modelled the gasket as 2D axisymmetric with the two rectangles above and below the gasket representing the flanges. One flange will have a fixed support along the bottom edge and the other flange will have a force of 18730N applied to the top edge (This force is the minimum force calculated to form a reliable seal).

I have managed to get this far without too much problems but when I try to add the contact regions between the flanges and the gaskets and then solve for the total deformation of the gasket the message appears that I have ‘An internal solution magnitude has been reached.’

Does anyone know how to change the solution magnitudes or have any other recommendations on how to simulate?

Cheers

Calum

["post-34341","topic","type-topic","status-closed","hentry
[{"0":
6513
Anonymous
false
publish
null
normal
0","0
466
unanswered
publish
34341
27791
897","160648","163967
3
2
81738
81738
2019-03-30 06:28:13
["GET
