


{"id":34339,"date":"2019-03-29T16:05:18","date_gmt":"2019-03-29T16:05:18","guid":{"rendered":"\/forum\/forums\/topic\/contact-region-troubles\/"},"modified":"2019-03-29T16:05:18","modified_gmt":"2019-03-29T16:05:18","slug":"contact-region-troubles","status":"closed","type":"topic","link":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/forums\/topic\/contact-region-troubles\/","title":{"rendered":"Contact region troubles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hello,<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>I am doing an FSI simulation with transient mechanical and fluent.&nbsp; First I test the mechanical side with all the pressures exerted on the structure to make sure it can solve &#8211; <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>and it does solve just fine<\/em><\/span>.&nbsp; But when I couple with fluent through system coupling I get solver errors of the type: &#8220;An element has become highly distorted.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>When I investigated, I found that several contact regions were becoming separated, as shown in the below picture (true scale).&nbsp; The element listed as the one that became highly distorted is adjacent to these regions. These contacts are listed as Bonded, as they were created in DM by slicing a solid geometry.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/us.v-cdn.net\/6032193\/uploads\/attachments\/8babacfe-69bd-457f-8c79-a9e90018d38c\/4186fdcd-c1f5-4950-967f-aa1f01086f58_contacts-separating.jpg?width=690&amp;upscale=false\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>So I switched from Bonded to No Separation and I get the same error.&nbsp; The element listed as the one that is highly distorted is on the contact boundary, just like before.&nbsp; The new failure looks like the contacts are still slipping around (I know this is expected.
