


{"id":343036,"date":"2024-01-03T20:51:20","date_gmt":"2024-01-03T20:51:20","guid":{"rendered":"\/forum\/forums\/topic\/discrepancy-between-creep-strain-ansys-vs-creep-model-simple-rod-in-tension\/"},"modified":"2024-01-03T20:51:20","modified_gmt":"2024-01-03T20:51:20","slug":"discrepancy-between-creep-strain-ansys-vs-creep-model-simple-rod-in-tension","status":"closed","type":"topic","link":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/forums\/topic\/discrepancy-between-creep-strain-ansys-vs-creep-model-simple-rod-in-tension\/","title":{"rendered":"Discrepancy between creep strain &#8211; ANSYS vs creep Model &#8211; Simple rod in tension"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;line-height: normal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size: 12.0pt\">Hello everyone,<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;line-height: normal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size: 12.0pt\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;line-height: normal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size: 12.0pt\">I&#8217;m doing a &#8220;Static Structural&#8221; analysis on a simple rod, in order to study the creep behavior.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;line-height: normal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size: 12.0pt\">I calibrated the constants of the creep model of the material (Time Hardening Power Law) using the ANSYS creep fitting tool, through experimental data.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;line-height: normal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size: 12.0pt\">The constants of the Time Hardening Power Law model are C1 = 6.41E-05, 7.1E-10, C3 = -0.97186, and C4 = 0.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;line-height: normal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size: 12.0pt\">The analysis has the following features: L = 300 mm, A = 36 mm^2, F = 120 N, E = 4900 MPa, Poisson&rsquo;s coefficient = 0.4.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;line-height: normal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size: 12.0pt\">The setting of the steps are in the picture attached (with large deformation &ldquo;ON&rdquo;).<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;line-height: normal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size: 12.0pt\">I find a similar example thanks to some ANSYS developers with an aluminium rod.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;line-height: normal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size: 12.0pt\">When I calculate the creep strain with the Time Hardening Power Law, I obtain a specific value (0.0028 after 1000 seconds), while ANSYS gives me 0.0012.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;line-height: normal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size: 12.0pt\">What could be causing this discrepancy?
