Different structural parts of the bridge (spandrels, backings, arches, piers, fill) are&nbsp;modeled seperately and connected together with bonded contacts. Frictional contacts are assigned between the fill and the spandrel walls. I used SOLID65 element to model the masonry and bilinear isotropic model for the fill. As for the BC&#8217;s, I have compression only supports with very high contact stiffness and zero displacements in horizontal directions so as to prevent early cracking in the piers.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px 0px 10px; font-size: 15px; overflow-x: hidden; font-family: 'Open Sans', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px 0px 10px; font-size: 15px; overflow-x: hidden; font-family: 'Open Sans', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">Currently, I apply the force in the transverse direction of the bridge using&nbsp;inertial acceleration increased gradually (so, it&#8217;s a mass proportional pushover analysis) and obtain the base reaction in the transverse direction&nbsp;&amp;&nbsp;top displacement values until the non-convergence occur (see an example below). I am fine with the crack pattern etc. However, I can&#8217;t obtain the degradation in the pushover curve&nbsp;with this method. Instead of increasing the force (inertial acceleration in this case) I need to apply displacement in the transverse direction of the bridge (although I have my doubts whether I can get&nbsp;the degradation with solid65 elements).&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px 0px 10px; font-size: 15px; overflow-x: hidden; font-family: 'Open Sans', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/us.v-cdn.net\/6032193\/uploads\/attachments\/8e512b46-99cc-4d80-9334-a9c000e31af1\/6f888397-1be7-4536-9324-a9d900925d06_picture1.jpg?width=690&amp;upscale=false\" alt=\"Pushover Curve\"><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px 0px 10px; font-size: 15px; overflow-x: hidden; font-family: 'Open Sans', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">Here comes my problem:<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px 0px 10px; font-size: 15px; overflow-x: hidden; font-family: 'Open Sans', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">The behavior of the bridge is not straightforward to define i.e., mid part deforms more compared to the sides and the top part of the bridge somewhat rotates slightly as you can see in the figure below.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px 0px 10px; font-size: 15px; overflow-x: hidden; font-family: 'Open Sans', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/us.v-cdn.net\/6032193\/uploads\/attachments\/8e512b46-99cc-4d80-9334-a9c000e31af1\/ec11de05-74a9-4c24-b801-a9d90095a2bb_picture2.jpg?width=690&amp;upscale=false\" alt=\"total deformation at the last converged step\"><br style=\"box-sizing: border-box;\">I am using ANSYS 19.2.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px 0px 10px; font-size: 15px; overflow-x: hidden; font-family: 'Open Sans', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">Any help on how to apply&nbsp;such&nbsp;displacement or improve the model is appreciated.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px 0px 10px; font-size: 15px; overflow-x: hidden; font-family: 'Open Sans', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">Kind regards.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"template":"","class_list":["post-32728","topic","type-topic","status-closed","hentry"],"aioseo_notices":[],"aioseo_head":"\n\t\t<!-- All in One SEO 4.9.10 - aioseo.com -->\n\t<meta name=\"description\" content=\"Dear Community, I am studying the nonlinear seismic behavior of a masonry arch bridge by means of a static pushover analysis.
