


{"id":312775,"date":"2023-10-23T07:35:56","date_gmt":"2023-10-23T07:35:56","guid":{"rendered":"\/forum\/forums\/topic\/vof-issue\/"},"modified":"2023-10-23T07:35:56","modified_gmt":"2023-10-23T07:35:56","slug":"vof-issue","status":"closed","type":"topic","link":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/forums\/topic\/vof-issue\/","title":{"rendered":"VOF Issue"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p\">Dear Sir,<\/p>\n<p class=\"p\">I am new to ANSYS and doing an <strong><span class=\"15\">Implicit VOF transient <\/span><\/strong>simulation on single tube parrallel heat exchanger.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>Viscous Model:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><!-- [if !supportLists]--><span>K-<\/span><!--[endif]-->Epsilon with realizable and Enhanced wall function&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>VOF Model:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Pr<span class=\"15\">imary phase = water liquid (as I don&rsquo;t need it to put in boundry condition volume fraction)<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p\"><span class=\"15\">Secondary phases = water vapor, ammonia liquid, ammonia vapor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p\"><span class=\"15\">&nbsp;<\/span><strong>Material:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Tube side = Hot fluid =water that converts from vapor to liquid with VOF Lee&rsquo;s Model at frequency 180\/s.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Shell side = Cold fluid = ammonia that converts from liquid to water with Lee&rsquo;s model frequency 89\/s.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>Boundry conditions:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Velocity inlet and pressure outlet.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Tube side = I put water vapor Volume fraction = 1<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Shell side = I put ammonia liquid volume fraction = 1<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>Method:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Piso Scheme with all second order upwind<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>Control:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Initially all are at 1 UR factor and then reduced the convergence UR till 0.7.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>Initialization:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Hybrid.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>Patch:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Water vapor VF = 1 in tube domain<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Ammonia liquid VF = 1 in shell domain.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>Problem:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">I am facing two big issues.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><!-- [if !supportLists]--><span>1- <\/span><!--[endif]-->Continity residual is showing a straight line. It is not converging to 1e-3 or 1e-4. it stays at 1e-1 as a straight line. All other residuals are below 1e-6.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><!-- [if !supportLists]--><span>2- <\/span><!--[endif]-->As water liquid is primary phase so I can&rsquo;t assign it to any domain. I did the patch to avoid any water liquid in shell domain. After the simulation. What I find out through volume fraction surface and volume intergrals is that &ldquo;the water liquid is present in both the tube and shell domain&rdquo;.
