The geometry and boundary conditions are listed below.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a class=\"wp-colorbox-image cboxElement\" href=\"\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/05\/25-05-2023-1685041932-mceclip0.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/05\/25-05-2023-1685041932-mceclip0.png\"><\/a><br \/><!--[endif]--><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Bottom of domain ( z = 2.205m) <strong>pressure-outlet<\/strong> with the back flow volume fraction 1 for the gas phase<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Top of the domain (z = 0 m) <strong>Velocity-Inlet<sub> <\/sub>&nbsp;<\/strong>was placed with velocity of the gas phase as -0.25 m\/s and a volume fraction of 1 for the gas phase.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>Note<\/strong> these boundary conditions were instated to force the gas phase to enter the domain from the bottom uniformly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>Wall conditions<\/strong> for the walls.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">At the liquid sparger a <strong>Velocity-Inlet<\/strong> was placed, with velocity of the liquid phase as 0.038 m\/s and a volume fraction of 1 for the liquid phase.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">This simulation iterates nicely up until the liquid phase enters the packed bed which is ~ 0.08 [m] from the top , as seen in the picture.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The simulation diverges because in the packed bed domain, which was spliced in design space, a fluid dispersion momentum source term is introduced, see below.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a class=\"wp-colorbox-image cboxElement\" href=\"\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/05\/25-05-2023-1685041957-mceclip1.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/05\/25-05-2023-1685041957-mceclip1.png\"><\/a><!--[endif]--><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a class=\"wp-colorbox-image cboxElement\" href=\"\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/05\/25-05-2023-1685041961-mceclip2.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/05\/25-05-2023-1685041961-mceclip2.png\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a class=\"wp-colorbox-image cboxElement\" href=\"\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/05\/25-05-2023-1685041968-mceclip3.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/05\/25-05-2023-1685041968-mceclip3.png\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a class=\"wp-colorbox-image cboxElement\" href=\"\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/05\/25-05-2023-1685041971-mceclip4.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/05\/25-05-2023-1685041971-mceclip4.png\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><!-- [if gte vml 1]&gt;--> <!-- [if !vml]--><\/p>\n<table style=\"width: 14.6825%;height: 52.2812px\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\" align=\"left\">\n<tbody>\n<tr style=\"height: 26.1406px\">\n<td style=\"width: 95.9459%;height: 26.1406px\" width=\"71\" height=\"0\">&nbsp;<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr style=\"height: 26.1406px\">\n<td style=\"width: 95.9459%;height: 26.1406px\">&nbsp;<\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 0%;height: 26.1406px\">&nbsp;<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Most of these variables on constants, so the only variable that may cause issues is the division of volume fraction. So to avoid 1\/0 in the source term I enforced a conditional statement with a volume fraction tolerance, see below.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a class=\"wp-colorbox-image cboxElement\" href=\"\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/05\/25-05-2023-1685041978-mceclip5.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/05\/25-05-2023-1685041978-mceclip5.png\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">However, my simulation still diverges when the liquid enters the packed bed domain. I have done a thorough investigation and found that my simulation works if the source term is removed.
