MFD is typically defined as the radial position where intensity falls to e-2 of the peak intensity. So MFD definition sounds like the definition of &#8220;effective mode area&#8221; in Lumerical.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/27-12-2022-1672163048-mceclip1.png\"><\/p>\n<p>However, could someone please explain the difference between the difference of each E component?
