


{"id":240416,"date":"2022-11-10T19:16:11","date_gmt":"2022-11-10T19:16:11","guid":{"rendered":"\/forum\/forums\/topic\/cfx-cooling-to-below-inlet-temperature\/"},"modified":"2022-11-10T23:53:07","modified_gmt":"2022-11-10T23:53:07","slug":"cfx-cooling-to-below-inlet-temperature","status":"closed","type":"topic","link":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/forums\/topic\/cfx-cooling-to-below-inlet-temperature\/","title":{"rendered":"CFX Cooling to below Inlet Temperature"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hi all,<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m trying to run an electronics cooling simulation in ANSYS CFX.&nbsp; I&#8217;m using a very similar setup to the &#8220;ANSYS CFX Tutorials &#8211; Section 14 (Conjugate Heat Transfer in a Heating Coil)&#8221; tutorial.&nbsp; I can take screenshots and provide additional information if necessary, but I&#8217;m not sure what information would be helpful at the moment.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>My inlet temperature is set to a constant 21 degrees C, and my inlet velocity is set to 3 m\/s.&nbsp; My outlet is set to an &#8220;opening&#8221; with a static temperature set to &#8220;areaAve(T)@REGION:outlet&#8221; (with &#8220;outlet&#8221; being the named selection name for the outlet geometry).&nbsp; I have a series of blocks with a constant heat flux.&nbsp; These blocks are in one solid domain, and they&#8217;re connected by very thin sheet metal tabs (in a different solid domain) to more blocks that fluid is flowing over.&nbsp; The blocks and tabs are currently aluminum, and the fluid is air (the default &#8220;air&#8221; material available in CFX).&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>For some reason, parts of my solid domain are showing up as being a few degrees below the inlet temperature.&nbsp; (Particularly, my very thin tabs are ~19 degrees, which is below my inlet 21-degree temperature).&nbsp; I was wondering if this is a common problem people have?&nbsp; My mesh is very coarse right now and not good for accurate fluid flow; this was just my first attempt at setting up a full-scale simulation.&nbsp; Potential probems that I can think of are:<\/p>\n<p>-bad mesh (would this cause the temperature to go below the inlet temperature?)<\/p>\n<p>-too many solid domains that aren&#8217;t connected properly (I have a solid domain defined for each area that I want to be able to look at individually in the CFX-Post &#8211; is there a better way to do this that allows all the solids to stay in the same domain?)<\/p>\n<p>-Some setting I&#8217;m not aware of that creates a separate ambient temperature or causes parts to be below the inlet temperature in some other way.&nbsp; (Maybe the default &#8220;air&#8221; material has a temperature associated with it?)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If anyone has any insight, please let me know.&nbsp; I can attach files (although this file is relatively large) or take screenshots of anything you need.&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"template":"","class_list":["post-240416","topic","type-topic","status-closed","hentry","topic-tag-ansys-cfd-1","topic-tag-ansys-cfx","topic-tag-AnsysCFX2021R2-1","topic-tag-cfd","topic-tag-cfx","topic-tag-cfx-setup-1","topic-tag-fluid-thermal","topic-tag-fluids","topic-tag-thermal-analysis"],"aioseo_notices":[],"acf":[],"custom_fields":[{"0":{"_bbp_subscription":["267378","68667"],"_bbp_author_ip":["23.220.96.180"]," _bbp_last_reply_id":["0"]," _bbp_likes_count":["0"],"_btv_view_count":["1927"],"_edit_lock":["1668124470:196537"],"_bbp_topic_status":["unanswered"],"_bbp_status":["publish"],"_bbp_topic_id":["240416"],"_bbp_forum_id":["27796"],"_bbp_engagement":["68667","267378"],"_bbp_voice_count":["2"],"_bbp_reply_count":["2"],"_bbp_last_reply_id":["240911"],"_bbp_last_active_id":["240911"],"_bbp_last_active_time":["2022-11-15 19:52:01"]},"test":"hildeblioregonstate-edu"}],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/topics\/240416","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/topics"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/topic"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/topics\/240416\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=240416"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
