{"id":55260,"date":"2017-10-22T23:26:04","date_gmt":"2017-10-22T23:26:04","guid":{"rendered":"\/forum\/forums\/reply\/55260\/"},"modified":"2017-10-22T23:26:04","modified_gmt":"2017-10-22T23:26:04","slug":"55260","status":"publish","type":"reply","link":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/forums\/reply\/55260\/","title":{"rendered":"Reply To: ANSYS 17.2 Student Workbench could not connect to license server"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have seen many students struggle to correctly install ANSYS Student 17.2 in the Cornell&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/courses.edx.org\/courses\/course-v1:CornellX+ENGR2000X+1T2017\/course\/\">edX course<\/a>&nbsp;I am taking.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Most who experienced problems were able to get a working installation by following these steps.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>1. Uninstall all versions of ANSYS.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>2. In Windows Explorer,&nbsp;type&nbsp;%AppData% in the path field. You will be in the Roaming directory. Delete the Ansys folder, then go up a level and down to the Local directory and delete the Ansys folder.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>3. Download the Student Product License Key file and the ANSYS Student 17.2 zip files. Unzip both&nbsp;file to a folder on the C: drive.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/us.v-cdn.net\/6032193\/uploads\/attachments\/3e825b35-df61-45f5-9693-a81101684b62\/68be0f3e-9f2a-48e8-9c88-a814017ff93a_ansys-17.2-license-download.jpg?width=690&amp;upscale=false\" alt=\"2345\"><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>4. Create an environment variable that points to the ansys_student license file. You have to type the full path and filename including .lic at the end.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/us.v-cdn.net\/6032193\/uploads\/attachments\/3e825b35-df61-45f5-9693-a81101684b62\/936d741e-ecd5-4f11-b688-a8140180b01d_environment-variables.jpg?width=690&amp;upscale=false\" alt=\"3456\"><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>5. Right click on setup.exe in the ANSYS Student 17.2 folder you unzipped to and select &#8220;Run as Administrator&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>6. At the screen that asks for the license server, you MUST check the box at the lower left that says &#8220;Skip this step and configure later&#8221;.
