In this picture you see the situation from another angle, and without the top plate.&lt;\/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/10\/18-10-2023-1697617568-mceclip1.png\" width=\"389\" height=\"393\" \/>&lt;\/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;There is only a &ldquo;bonded contact&rdquo; between the fillet weld and the &ldquo;brown&rdquo; plate.&lt;\/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The mesh size for all bodies is 2.5 mm, and looks like this:&lt;\/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/10\/18-10-2023-1697618089-mceclip4.png\" width=\"583\" height=\"434\" \/>&lt;\/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;and the mesh of the crack looks like this (without plate):&lt;\/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/10\/18-10-2023-1697618200-mceclip5.png\" \/>&lt;\/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The parameters of the crack are:&lt;\/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Growth factor: 1,2&lt;\/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Element size at crack front: 0,1mm&lt;\/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;with 6 contours.&lt;\/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&nbsp;&lt;\/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The deformation of the system looks like this. The blue arrow is the applied Load, and i marked the crack red.&lt;\/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/10\/18-10-2023-1697617755-mceclip2.png\" \/>&lt;\/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;In the following picture, you can see a section plane through the crack with the von mises stress distribution. One thing i observed was, that even though i defined a bounded contact between the plate and the fillet weld, it seems like there is a gap between those two bodies at some parts.
