The total memory bandwidth of the machine is important. This is computed as ((memory speed in MHz)*(# memory channels)*(8 bytes)\/1000) GB\/s.  A multiprocessor machine with several memory channels would be faster compared to a single processor machine with fewer memory channels. Fill all memory slots on the motherboard with RAM modules.  Also, check the CPU\/processor specs you will be using. Server processors support more memory channels compared to desktop processors.
