


{"id":186541,"date":"2022-01-12T12:32:55","date_gmt":"2022-01-12T12:32:55","guid":{"rendered":"\/forum\/forums\/reply\/186541\/"},"modified":"2022-01-12T12:35:41","modified_gmt":"2022-01-12T12:35:41","slug":"186541","status":"publish","type":"reply","link":"https:\/\/innovationspace.ansys.com\/forum\/forums\/reply\/186541\/","title":{"rendered":"Reply To: how to create a crack on a 3D surface body in ANSYS workbench?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I assume you are using solid elements to mesh the two materials.<br \/>\nLet&#8217;s say you have a material called fiber, which has a rod shape that exists in a material called epoxy.<br \/>\nA model of the composite would have a solid block of epoxy with rod-shaped holes in it, and rods would fill those rod-shaped holes with fiber material.<br \/>\nFor that model to have no crack, you would use shared topology to cause the mesh of one material to be connected by shared nodes to the next material.<br \/>\nBut maybe you have a material called coating on the surface of a material called substrate.<br \/>\nYou do the same thing with shared topology to make a composite material with no cracks.<br \/>\nWhat you need to do to introduce a crack at the interface is to split the faces on each material at the interface.
