SubscriberGood day everyone, I have encountered a problem while performing a fracture analysis, in which mode 1 of the stress intensity factor always results in a negative value. The body is not self-intersecting but apparently, the edge still is. Is there any way to prevent self-intersection?

Will you please share more details from modelling point of view how exactly you have done? Mode I is opening mode, have you confirmed that applied loads are in opposite directions as a result of which both surfaces gets pulled with respect to other to open up crack?

SubscriberHey this simulation has a moving load across the crack, perpendicular to the crack direction. The wheel exerts a negative Y-directional load as it rolls across in the X-direction. It is understandable that there is a compressive force that results in a negative K1 value, but it is simply unrealistic.

This experiment is performed to replicate the results in the document below.
