SubscriberI'm updating my laptop and wanted to check if the Ansys student software was compatible with the new Microsoft Surface laptops with new Snapdragon ARM processors?

Forum ModeratorIf it's not on the tested list https://www.ansys.com/it-solutions/platform-support we can't say it will. However, if it's not on the list it doesn't mean it won't work, it's only that it's not tested.Â

On that webpage you will see the annoucement for ARM processor support which says that the Fluent solver only runs on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).Â
Ansys Student license ony runs on Windows.
People have installed Ansys Student on all sorts of untested hardware, including running on an Apple Macbook running Parallels software that emulates a Windows environment.
If you buy a Microsoft Surface laptop, you can try installing Ansys Student and see if it works. However, if it doesn't work, is it more important to have the Surface laptop or is it more important to have Ansys Student working properly.
Ansys is a graphics intensive suite of software and on that webpage above is the list of tested graphic cards. If you purchase a computer that includes a graphics card on that list, then you have high confidence that Ansys will work properly. However lots of people purchase lower end or lower cost gaming graphics cards and Ansys mostly work properly. When I purchased a Dell laptop a year ago, I made sure to buy a model that came with an NVIDIA graphics card that was on the tested list.Â
