When saving .cas and .dat file, you can write a compressed file by appending a .gz extension onto the file name. This feature is useful when outputting large amounts of data that need to be stored, especially in a non-steady-state analysis. Files saved in the compressed format require no special decompression software and can be loaded directly into Fluent. For further details, please refer to the documentation in the ANSYS Fluent 16.2 User’s Guide – 3.1.5. Reading and Writing Compressed Files.
