Found the problem.
The geometry was faulty with significant gaps between the brace and the leg members. This was preventing the "bonded" contact from keeping the two members glued / welded together as it should have.
Increased the “maximum offset” of all the members with such problematic contact regions to a value greater than the gap and it works perfectly.
All members display the welded/bonded behaviour now, as they should.
