thank you for the suggestions!

I already increased the number of iterations up to 100, but the number of predicted iterations till convergence kept increasing along. So this could not solve the issue.

There are certainly some warning messages, but with the same warning messages I was able to achieve a converged solution in similar models. The solver output shows some more warning messages. I have not lokked at alle of them yet.

Twice in the solver output there is an error message about too much penetration after a substep, but after a bisection the substeps keep converging.

The final error message only reads: 

Solution not converged at time 0.466149349 (load step 1 substep 61).   
  Run terminated. 

 

@ Mike: where can I check which other convergence criteria are activated and how their values develop over the solution? I could not find them in the solve.out file or the solver output
