Here is an example where the many Link elements have been replaced by 2 spring elements. The roller has become a rigid body with a revolute joint at the center. The ends of the spring are scoped to the rigid body.  This kind of model is useful to evaluate the forces in the mechanism at a particular configuration. It is not as versatile to operate the mechanism through large angles of rotation of the joint, but it is easy to build and easily converges.
