SubscriberI am trying to simulate the projectile impact on composite laminate. I am using orthotropic elastic material data. I am using Hashin damage initiation. I specified all the stress limits. I used both frictional and frictionless contact interactions. both result in almost the same results which are away from experimental values.
Does anyone used ansys explicit with orthotropic elastic and Hashin damage initiation to simulate the projectile impact and got near to experimental data?
PFA material data I am using. Can anyone tell what all data I need to simulate a projectile impact on composite laminate with 3D elements to simulate accurately?

Ansys EmployeeWhat analysis system are you using? Explicit Dynamics or WB LS-DYNA? How is your model setup?
To be honest, your results are not that bad. It is important to note that the Hashin damage model is a macro-mechanical failure criterion and it doesn't necessarily match experimental results always. You might want to try using a more advanced failure model. For LS-DYNA, see this:

SubscriberHi Sandeep sir,
I am using explicit dynamic for solving impact of metallic sphere on metallic plate but based on my problem I have to give initial temperature to projectile and plate body.
Please help how to do that ?

I am using Explicit Dynamics in WB. I am giving orthotropic stress limits. I am adding Damage initiation law with Hashin criteria for all four failure cases. I was not adding any damage evolution.
The simulation can also run without Damage initiation law and damage evolution. ( how is failure determined in this case , Is it based on all stress limits)
I want to see the exact formulae used for Hashin in ansys. (can you direct me to a ANSYS manual)
I want to know how one can use --->Orthotropic elastic + orthotropic stress limits + Damage initiation + Damage evolution for better simulation of impact on composite in ANSYS Explicit.
Any tutorial or reference to use Explicit Dynamics efficiently for composite impact would be of great help.

Subscriber.Dear rahulb and sandeepm
Kindly, I want model the brittle failure of bamboo composite using orthotropic elastic + orthotropic stress limits (Hill yield failure ratios). Can this be done without Damage initiation and Damage evolution for simulation of composite in ANSYS workbench?
Any thought would be greatly appreciated. Kind Regards, Layth

Subscriber.re interested in inplane behavior and ok with the shell elements to model then you can use Ansys.
