This lesson explains how to simulate inductance of a multi-material toroidal inductor under a variable DC bias current in Maxwell. We will simulate this scenario to generate light-current (LI) curves, as the radii for the core rings can’t be calculated directly with Ampere’s Law. By using Maxwell, we can quickly obtain several LI plots for optimizing the inductor design required for variation in DC bias. Depending on your application size, the shape and number of materials can differ than what is depicted in this lesson to achieve higher inductance density, which can be quickly evaluated using Maxwell simulation.
