MBSE Motivation — Lesson 2

The motivation for Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) comes from the concept of digital engineering, integral to the ongoing digital transformation. Digital engineering goes beyond the digitization of data; it structures information meaningfully, facilitating automation and data sharing across tools. MBSE handles this approach, utilizing models as structured data representations to manage system design information throughout the lifecycle. This differs from document-based systems engineering, where data is dispersed across various artifacts, hindering coherence and traceability. MBSE promotes a comprehensive lifecycle approach, necessitating evolution in standards, tools, and methodologies. Agile practices, alongside effective data management, enable MBSE's efficacy, ensuring streamlined development, reduced risk, and enhanced stakeholder collaboration.
