Numerical Results — Lesson 7

Vectors and Contours:

This video covers the process of postprocessing cell center values of primary unknowns in Ansys Fluent® fluid simulation software to produce useful visualizations. It explains how to reopen the Ansys Fluent interface, create a 2D representation of the flow domain, and visualize velocity vectors. The video also discusses how to interpret the flow path, visualize static pressure contours, and understand the variations in pressure across the nozzle. It further elaborates on how to create contour plots for total pressure, temperature, and total temperature, and interpret the results. For instance, the video explains that the total pressure is nearly constant across the flow domain and equal to the inlet boundary condition, which indicates that no external work is being done on the fluid and the process is adiabatic.

Mach Number Visualizations:

This video covers the process of visualizing the Mach number in nozzles using contour plots and XY plots. It explains how to create a new plot, change contours to velocity, and save the display. The video also discusses how the flow starts as subsonic but reaches supersonic conditions at the outlet. It further elaborates on the concept of converging-diverging nozzles and how the fluid behaves in these sections. The video also guides on how to compare the results with analytical results from a quasi 1D analysis. For instance, it shows how the Mach number is initially lower near the edges of the nozzle but ends up being larger at the exit.
